The Volcanology has been in recent years an enormous development in Peru. Our center is in a position to predict an eruption early enough to ensure an orderly evacuation of the danger area. Using detailed geological maps of previous eruptions, we can anticipate the direction and magnitude of the potential destructive flows.
Our goal is to provide the scientific community and civil authorities the information necessary to anticipate volcanic disasters.
Our region has 7 major volcanoes:
El Misti (stratovolcano) 5.821m.
Ubinas (Stratovolcano History) 5672 m.
Huaynaputina (Stratovolcano History) 6175 m.
Ticsani (Boveda Lava) 5391 m.
Tutupaca (Holocene stratovolcano) 5815 m.
YUCAMANE (Stratovolcano History) 5550 m.
SNOW Casiri (Holocene stratovolcano) 5650 m.
These volcanoes have erupted in historical times and require constant monitoring. The main objective of Moquegua Volcano Observatory is to observe demonstrations geochemical, geological and physical active volcanoes to make a projection of possible future eruptions. To date we have monitored the Misti, and Ticsani Ubinas and are developing a monitoring system to be operational Huaynaputina during 2012. Certain personnel shortages and digital equipment have prevented us from creating a system of observation and monitoring that covers the entire region and provide data capable of implementing disaster prevention policies.
